Woman charged with child endangerment

MINGO JUNCTION — A Wintersville woman has been charged with child endangerment for allegedly leaving her child unattended at the village’s swimming pool, actions police said led to the child nearly drowning.

Village Police Chief Willie McKenzie said on June 7, Hayden Martin, 28, of Apartment 14, 6 Morningside Drive, left the pool while her 3-year-old child was in a section of the pool that is 2 1/2 deep.

He said in the minutes she was outside the pool, the child ventured into a section that is 4 1/2 deep and nearly drowned.

McKenzie said a patron pulled the child from the pool, and a lifeguard there administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He said the child was transported by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital and, he believes, has recovered from the incident.

The chief said signs at the pool state small children should be accompanied by an adult.
