Toronto woman sentenced in jail drug case
STEUBENVILLE — A Toronto woman Monday was sentenced to a total of 60 months in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to attempting to convey fentanyl into the Jefferson County Jail and third-offense possession of a controlled substance.
Tayonna Wade, 28, of Toronto was sentenced to two consecutive 30-month sentences by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph J. Bruzzese following a plea agreement reached by her attorney and the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Stephen Lamatrice, assistant Jefferson County prosecutor, said on July 3, Wade attempted to bring more than 5 grams of fentanyl into the jail.
He noted she faced up to 36 months of incarceration for each charge.
Wade’s attorney, Bruce Clark, told the court the plea agreement was fair because the prosecutor’s office could have pursued other charges against her.
