Second Saturday to feature ‘Sounds of Summer’

WEIRTON — The Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau invites the community to soak up the season at “Second Saturday: Sounds of Summer,” beginning at noon, Saturday, at the Weirton Event Center.
“Second Saturday brings out the best of summer,” said Rachel Keeney, executive director of the convention and visitors bureau. “The full lineup of activities is a great way for the community to come together, relax, and have some fun.”
Activities begin with an outdoor yoga session at noon, with all skill levels welcome to participate. Registration is $10 in advance by going online to www.tinyurl.com/wss-yoga2 or $15 if paid at the event.
Vendors will be set up from noon until 4 p.m., offering desserts, handmade crafts, health and wellness products, homemade dog treats, fresh flowers and more.
A cornhole tournament will begin at 1 p.m., offering cash prizes for the top three teams. Entry for the tournament is $20 per team, with registration open at the event until 12:45 p.m. Teams are encouraged to pre-register at www.tinyurl.com/wss-cornhole2. Food trucks, a beer tent, lawn games, a 50/50 drawing benefiting Madonna High School and a dunk tank raising funds for the Oak Glen Football Boosters will be available throughout the day.
Live music begins at 2 p.m., featuring a mix of summer sounds. Joshua Garrett will kick off the music at 2 p.m. with a set on the steel drums. At 4 p.m., 1980’s cover band Ridgemont High will take the stage with a variety of throwback hits. The Labra Brothers, a Latin soul and funk group, will return to the Event Center stage at 6 p.m. to close out the evening. This month’s event will feature a Car Cruze beginning at 5 p.m., giving attendees a chance to check out classic cars while enjoying the music.
Second Saturday is free to attend and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and friends and enjoy the afternoon.
