Motorcyclist injured, transported
SALINE TOWNSHIP — The rider of a motorcycle was transported by medical helicopter to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center following a collision with a pickup truck at the intersection of state Routes 213 and 7 Saturday.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Mohammed Joumma, 51, of Toronto was traveling south on Route 7 when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Travis Orr, 47, of Irondale at about 4:51 p.m.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Bernard said it’s been determined that Orr failed to yield to Joumma and charges are pending.
Dispatched to the scene were the TEMS Joint Ambulance District and Irondale and Stratton fire departments.
Firefighters respond to porch fire
STEUBENVILLE — City firefighters were called early Monday to extinguish a fire that originated on the rear porch of a home at 614 Lawson Ave. and had spread to an adjacent garage.
City Police, who responded first because a caller at the home smelled smoke and discovered the fire, said the caller and others inside were able to get out unharmed.
The cause of the blaze hasn’t been determined.
Library board to meet
STEUBENVILLE — The board of trustees for the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will meet for its monthly meeting at 4 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Main Library located at 407 S. Fourth St. in downtown Steubenville.

North 12th Street to be paved
WEIRTON — North 12th Street will be closed to traffic today to allow for paving.
