Access being required at Kettlewell Stadium
WINTERSVILLE — Access is being limited to Kettlewell Memorial Stadium and those who seek to use the Lester Carney Track will be required to apply for a code to gain entry.
Indian Creek Local School District officials said new fencing, gates and a punch code were added at the stadium this summer to bolster security and as of Friday, the site will be permanently locked; however, any walkers seeking to use the track will be able to obtain a free passcode at the school board office at Indian Creek High School.
Assistant Superintendent John Belt said the school board had been concerned about safety issues at the facility but did not want to hinder entry for community members who used the track for exercise.
“Our facilities will be locked and people have to come to the board office to receive a free code to walk in the stadium,” he explained, adding that individuals must complete a brief form to receive the personal code and gain entry.
Belt added that new perimeter fencing was installed this summer from the east end zone to the visitor’s stands as well as to the general admission area on the home side of the stadium. Signs also have been posted at the gates informing the public of the change while the Wintersville Police Department regularly patrols the area. He said the district wanted to maintain a safe facility and wanted the many community members who used the site responsibly to continue doing so.
