Arneault taking a position in school transportation department
NEW CUMBERLAND — After two years at the helm of Weir High School, Ted Arneault is rolling on to a new position within Hancock County Schools.
As part of Monday’s meeting of the Hancock County Board of Education, Arneault was approved, by a 4-0 vote, to step into the recently created position of coordinator of transportation.
The vote followed a 20-minute executive session.
The post was created by the board as part of a special meeting held June 30, with school officials explaining it was to have a secondary administrative position within the Hancock County Schools’ Transportation Department to back up Transportation Director Mark Dziatkowicz.
In related matters, Monday, the board voted 5-0 to eliminate the position of operations chief from the transportation department, which had been ranked as a service personnel position.
“It’s going to take the place of the operations chief,” Superintendent Dan Enich explained about the new coordinator position.
Board member Jim Horstman recused himself from the vote for Arneault, and took part in only a portion of the executive session.
“Horstman could not vote as his son was involved in the process,” school board President Chris Gillette said.
Prior to his time as head principal at Weir High School, to which he was posted in August 2023, Arneault had served as an assistant principal at Weirton Elementary. He previously worked as a teacher and football coach at Oak Glen and Weirton Madonna high schools. He has coaching experience at Weir and Brooke high schools, and Robert Morris University.
Arneault will officially step into the new position July 29.
In the meantime, Enich said the board will begin advertising to fill the Weir High principal job this week.
