Washington Street Hill closed due to pavement issue

STEUBENVILLE — Pavement problems have forced city officials to close the northbound lanes of Washington Street Hill/state Route 43 from Seventh Street to Belleview Boulevard to traffic this week.

City Engineer Mike Dolak said there was a “concrete pavement failure” at the road joint, and crews will have to remove and replace the damaged concrete.

Dolak said it will take crews seven days to do the repairs.

“The pavement at the joint crumbled,” Dolak said. “It’s across all three lanes, 36 feet.”

“There are some signs of an asphalt patch there, but it’s possible that the heat could have caused some of it,” he said.

Dolak said those with questions should contact his office, (740) 283-6000, extension 3303.
