Radio club to host event

SMITHFIELD — The Steubenville-Weirton Amateur Radio Club will hold its annual American Radio Relay League Field Day event, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 28 at Friendship Park.

The group will be set up at Shelters 4 and 5, and the public is invited to watch as local Amateur Radio Operators set up their antenna, radios and other communication equipment in an effort to make contact with other operators across the United States and Canada.

Day of Visibility rally planned

STEUBENVILLE — A rally is being planned to coincide with the national “Day of Visibility” campaign on June 14.

Set to take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., local participants will gather in the green space along the Steubenville City Building, on the side facing Market Street. The event, which organizers say will be peaceful and non-partisan, will feature speakers.

Special recognition also is planned for members of the military, first responders, teachers, and union members.

Street resurfacing project to begin

STEUBENVILLE — The City of Steubenville will begin its south end streets resurfacing project, in conjunction with its water line replacement, beginning Thursday.

Work by NLS Paving Inc. will begin at 7 a.m. and continue daily over the next two weeks. The project will involve the removal of existing asphalt and installation of a new hot mix asphalt surface. It will include areas of Sinclair Avenue, Coal Hill Road, Lincoln Avenue, and South Fourth Street.

Parking will be prohibited at least one day in advance of work on each street. Vehicles left on the street will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Culvert replacement set to begin

WELLSBURG — A portion of Sanders Hill Road will be closed Friday for a culvert replacement project.

The closure will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, at Milepost 0.54. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route, which includes Rabit Hill Road to either state Route 2 or Route 27.
