DeLong appointed to serve as a Brooke County magistrate

Sarah DeLong

WELLSBURG — Sarah DeLong, formerly Brooke County’s chief election clerk, has been appointed to serve as Brooke County magistrate by 1st Judicial Circuit Court Judge David Sims.

Her appointment comes following the resignation of Shannon Price, who is pursuing other opportunities.

State election laws require her to seek election to the position in next year’s county election.

A Wellsburg native and 2001 graduate of Brooke High School, DeLong attended West Liberty University, where she studied criminal justice and social work and worked with developmentally disabled individuals for four years.

With many years of clerical experience behind her, she worked in the office of County Clerk Kimberly Barbetta for six years, including four as the county’s chief election clerk.

Asked what interested her in the position of magistrate, DeLong said, “It gave me a better opportunity to serve the public and have a positive impact on the community.”

She expressed appreciation to Barbetta and others who supported her in her previous positions.

“I’m in the position I’m in because of a lot of outstanding women who have supported me in my career,” said DeLong.
