Steubenville Police
Food run: A woman said she found two young kids walking up John Scott Highway, Saturday. She told police they told her they were “trying to go to McDonald’s.” Police said the kids told them where they live and they drove them to their homes.
Holding a grudge: A man asked police to help him gather some of his personal belongings from a home downtown, but they said the woman wouldn’t come to the door, Saturday. After several attempts the man advised he would try again in the morning “when she is no longer intoxicated.”
Crowded: A resident in the 800 block of Jeannette Avenue told police people were in his house and refusing to leave, Saturday. When they arrived, the man told them “four people tried to crawl through a window,” but police said no one was there nor was there evidence anyone tried to gain entry to his house. He then told police he “has not slept in days and would attempt to get rest.” Police had to return an hour later after he reported the individuals were back in the house. He showed them pictures that he claimed proved the intruders were in his home but police said there was no one in the pictures and he had a laceration on his arm. He was taken to the hospital for a laceration on his arm.
Oiled up: A McConnell Avenue resident said he walked over to a neighbor’s residence to ask the neighbor’s wife not to turn around in his driveway anymore because she was leaking oil and ended up arguing with her husband, Monday. The caller told police the woman’s husband “told him to get off his property or he would get a gun” so he backed away and went home. The woman’s husband said she didn’t know the car was leaking oil and when the caller came over claims he “began to yell at him in a threatening manner.” They were advised to stay off each other’s property.
Theft: The manager at Rural King said a man put a Husqvarna chain saw in a shopping cart and left the store without paying, Sunday. The thief fled the property in a red Chevy pickup with an open bed and back trim with no plates.
Charged: Kelli Flaherty, 50, 1036 Main St., Apt. 31, Rayland, and Shannon Flaherty, 29, 154 Maple St., Dillonvale, theft, Sunday. Employees at Walmart allege the two women concealed items they hadn’t scanned in a customer’s Spark order, then tried to leave the store without paying for them. They told police the merchandise involved was valued at $131.
Concerned: A downtown resident said another man was making threatening comments toward him, making him feel unsafe, Sunday. He said he didn’t know why the other man was doing it.
Served, cited: John Antill, 56, 911 Biltmore Ave., Toronto, failure to appear (Toronto County Court), Monday. Antill also was cited for a loud exhaust and driving under suspension.
Charged: Debra L. Mossor, 61, Buena Vista Boulevard, Steubenville, misdemeanor theft, Monday. Employees at Walmart claim Mossor tried to leave the store without paying for all of the items in her bag;
Booked: Holly M. McCartney, 29, no fixed address, Weirton, petit theft, a warrant for petit theft (Steubenville Municipal Court) and failure to appear (Belmont County), Monday. Employees at Walmart allege McCartney left the store with a large bag full of merchandise she hadn’t paid for. McCartney admitted taking the items and said she “was hard up for money,” police said.
False alarm: A caller in the 400 block of Lovers Lane reported hearing a gunshot, Monday. Police located individuals on Fairway Drive who advised they’d set off a firework.
Damaged: A Maryland resident said she was staying in an Airbnb on Clinton Street when a male damaged her Yamaha guitar, Monday.
Silly: A parking problem on Sherman Avenue led to one neighbor threatening another Saturday.

Get away: A resident at a care facility in Wintersville tried to leave and was riding in the middle of the street, May 24. He told deputies he was going to a dispensary to “get some weed and a Twisted Tea,” then he planned to go back. Administrators told deputies he could sign himself out for the day if he wants but he cannot be rolling down the road in a wheelchair, so deputies offered to buy him a soda if he wanted but he said he only wanted a Twisted Tea. They told him they can’t buy him alcohol in uniform and since he was taking a prescription painkiller, “they would have to speak with the doctor before they gave him marijuana and alcohol while taking (it).”
Strained relations: A college student home on spring break said he was at a family member’s house and his estranged father showed up and hit him in the face, bloodying his lip, May 25. He said his father previously took out a credit card in his name and destroyed his credit. When he arrived at the family member’s home he said his father “seemed to be happy…. (and told) him he restored his credit,” and when he pointed out it was still a crime, walked inside the house. He said when his father came back outside he called him several derogatory terms, then smacked him “as hard as he could” across the face twice before fleeing the scene.
The family member whose house the student was at was able to make contact with the alleged attacker, who “began to deny hitting (his son) and stated (his son) had started it” and refused to give them a written statement or meet in person. When they told the man they had surveillance footage of the incident and a warrant for his arrest might be issued, deputies said the man told them he “already has a warrant so it didn’t matter.” The outstanding warrant was for identity fraud for allegedly taking out the credit card in his son’s name, deputies said.
Problems: A Steubenville resident said she gave a man a ride home from Pittsburgh and when they arrived at his residence refused to get his stuff out of her car and then hit her in the stomach, May 26. Deputies said they learned “there is a long history between (the two of them) with disputes and arguments.”
