Several indicted by Jefferson County grand jury

STEUBENVILLE — A city resident suspected of a shooting a month ago on Oakmont Avenue and a Chester man who allegedly crashed into two vehicles while driving under the influence were among cases ordered by a Jefferson County grand jury Wednesday to stand trial.

Also indicted was a man who allegedly tried to flee after crashing into a vehicle at the intersection of John Scott Highway and Sunset Boulevard in March, plus another charged with breaking into properties Feb 8 and 9. Five drug indictments were returned.

Derrick Jamal Brown, 644 Oakmont Ave., Steubenville, was named in a two-count indictment charging him with felonious assault and having weapons while under disability, both felonies, in Steubenville. The indictment includes a firearm specification.

Brown, 35, allegedly fired at another man on March 4, missing him but striking a car.

At the time, city police said the shots were fired around mid-afternoon on a weekday at a time “when there were innocent people outside walking and driving around” and said it was “a miracle no one was hurt or killed.”

Authorities say Brown was prohibited from having or possessing guns due to a 2021 drug trafficking conviction in Jefferson County Common Pleas Court.

Jaden Glenn, 434 Utah Lane, Chester, was indicted on two felony counts of aggravated vehicular assault, plus misdemeanor accounts of operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs, alcohol or both as well as operation in willful and wanton disregard of the safety of persons or property.

The indictment alleges that on Jan. 21 Glenn, 24, was at the wheel of a Kia Seltos that crashed into two vehicles, seriously injuring the drivers who were on their way home from work. Glenn allegedly was under the influence of drugs, alcohol or both at the time of the accident and “operated a vehicle … in willful or wanton disregard of the safety of (other motorists), the indictment alleged.

Others ordered to stand trial include:

• Dustin Skyler Schockow, 32, New Philadelphia, grand theft when the property is a firearm or dangerous ordinance, breaking and entering and theft, all felonies. Schockow allegedly stole a handgun, credit cards and an airport ID from an unoccupied property in Jefferson County Feb. 8.

• Tajh Malcolm Jackson, 433 Henry Ave., Steubenville, failure to stop after an accident, a felony, on March 4. Authorities allege Jackson, 34, fled the scene without providing any information as required by law and seriously injuring the other driver.

• Brian James Benton, 42, 30 Scott St., Steubenville, aggravated possession of drugs, a felony. The Jefferson County Drug Task Force allegedly seized 69 grams of methamphetamine from a Lewis Addition residence belonging to Benton on Feb. 26.

• Travis Stacy Gray Jr., 102 Harding Ave., Steubenville, possession of cocaine and having a weapon while under disability with specifications seeking major drug offender status and forfeiture of the gun, in 2024, along with trafficking a fentanyl-related compound, also a felony, in 2023.

The indictment alleges Gray, 33, sold drugs to an undercover officer and had at least 100 grams of cocaine and a gun in his possession in February 2024, despite being prohibited from having or using a firearm due to a 2014 conviction in Common Pleas Court for felonious assault. The indictment also alleges Gray sold drugs to an undercover agent in December 2023.

• Desirae Repine, 42, 3138 county Road 8, Dillonvale, aggravated trafficking in drugs, a felony. Repine allegedly sold methamphetamine to an undercover agent Dec. 15.

• Lawrence Gene Roe, 48, 900 Fifth St., Apt. 4, Brilliant, felony charges of aggravated possession of drugs and possession of cocaine, both felonies. The indictment alleges Roe sold an undercover agent methamphetamine and also had cocaine in his possession on March 3.

• Michael James Morelli, 39, 192 Cleveland St., Rayland, possession of cocaine, a felony. Authorities allege Morelli was slumped over in his car with a crack pipe and crack cocaine in his possession March 27, 2024.
