Weirton announces its spring cleanup dates
WEIRTON — The city’s annual spring cleanup, available to current city sanitation customers, will be held April 7-11.
Cleanup week collections will be limited to household materials only, with items collected on residents’ regular garbage day.
Items must be placed curbside no later than 7 a.m. on their collection day.
City crews will not pick up construction materials, vehicle tires, vehicle parts, tree trimmings, brush, propane tanks, air conditioners, lawnmowers, paint, oil, antifreeze, or hazardous materials.
Recyclable materials also will not be picked up during cleanup week.
In addition to the household collection days, the city will offer two days to pick up metal items. On April 3 and April 4, crews will collect metal items, including stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, hot water tanks, old railings, bicycle frames, and metal shelving.
Those metal items also must be placed on residents’ curbs no later than 7 a.m. on those designated days.
City officials note there is an ordinance in place prohibiting scavenging in Weirton.
Individuals cited for this activity shall be fined not less than $5 or more than $500 and costs, and, for the second or subsequent offenses, may be imprisoned for not more than 30 days, in addition to the fine.
