Mobile home destroyed by brush fire
COLLIERS — A mobile home, barn and storage building were destroyed by a brush fire that spread to them near Putney Ridge Road Wednesday evening.
Franklin Community Fire Chief Gerald McClain said multiple fire departments called to the scene were able to save a residential structure and no one was injured as a result of the fire.
McClain said the blaze spread quickly because of dry conditions and the wind, and its cause is under investigation.
He estimated that firefighters from 24 departments from Brooke, Hancock and Jefferson counties and Washington County, Pa. were involved in extinguishing the fire, which spread across about 15 acres near the Cross Creek Wildlife Management Area.
The Brooke County Commission has ordered a ban on all outdoor burning until further notice.
