STEUBENVILLE -- With the 2024 Sights and Sounds of Christmas parade now history, the Steubenville Visitor Center staff Wednesday celebrated the participants who helped make this year's pageant particularly memorable.
"It was once again a wonderful parade," organizer Mary Snyder said. "I'm so grateful to those who participated and all who came to watch and cheer them on. It is always a fun time for me, and I'm so pleased to see folks so happy and enjoying it."
Awarded trophies for their efforts in the Dec. 7 event were:
• Non-float: Steubenville Saddle Club, first; the Miller Family of Bloomingdale, second; and Tri-State Marine Corps Club Color Guard, third.
• Floats: Center of Hope Friendship Room, first; Cross Creek Tomahawks 4-H Club, second; Urban Mission Ministries, third.
• Mayor's Award: The Harding Middle School Band.
• Grand prize winner: Eastern Construction and Excavating.
"We had great winners again this year," Snyder said. "Our many unique entries made it very special. I only wish I could have ridden one of those beautiful first place non-float winner horses."
Mayor Jerry Barilla was appreciative of their efforts.
"The parade was terrific," he said. "(Having) more than 80 participants and three city blocks lined with spectators on both sides of the street was most gratifying. The Harding Middle School band members showed their sorrow and support of a family that recently lost their daughter, who was a band member, and wore pink in her honor. It was emotional and it said a lot about the children in the band."
Before leaving, the band members presented Barilla with a red-and-black T-shirt proclaiming him an honorary member.
