Naughty or nice
St. Nicholas, portrayed by Dan Fedoryka, and Zwarte Piet, portrayed by Max Nelson, asked whether children were good or bad and gave them gold coins or lumps of coal — both chocolate — during the St. Nicholas Lantern Parade in Steubenville, Friday. Hundreds sang Christmas hymns and carried lanterns and bells in the parade, which has been a tradition of the Steubenville Nutcracker Village for the past nine years. The route began at First Westminster Presbyterian Church and continued south on Fourth Street until the nativity scene at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where attendees were treated to hot chocolate and cookies by church volunteers. A Melkite liturgy in the Sycamore Youth Center preceded the parade.
