Planning for the bee
The planning committee for the Herald-Star Jefferson-Harrison County All Schools Regional Spelling Bee has started work on this school year’s event, which will be held at 11 a.m. March 8 at Buckeye North Elementary School in Brilliant. Members of the group gathered Tuesday in the R. Larry George Training Annex at the Jefferson County Educational Service Center. On hand for the meeting were, from left, front, Darlene Mason of Catholic Central Junior-Senior High School; Misty Mills of the Harrison Hills City School District; Susie Nolan of the Buckeye Local School District; and Amber Fomenko of the JCESC; back, Todd Herman of the Indian Creek Local School District; Justin Wiley of the Toronto City School District; Maryann Hoobler of the Edison Local School District; Ron Sismondo, bee coordinator for the JCESC; Linda Lenzi of the JCESC; and Ross Gallabrese, executive editor of the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times. The winner of the regional bee will travel to National Harbor, Md., the week of May 25 to compete in the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee. — Julie Stenger
