WINTERSVILLE -- Indian Creek High School students will be recognized during the annual Scholars Banquet on Sunday.
Events take place at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville at 1:30 p.m. and 88 juniors and seniors will be recognized for receiving a 3.5 grade-point average or better, with recipients gaining certificates for at least one semester, a bronze key for three consecutive semesters, silver key for five consecutive semesters and a gold key for seven consecutive semesters.
The banquet will include Army Capt. Abby Wilton as the featured speaker. Wilton, a Bloomingdale native and 2015 ICHS alumna, is a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University as part of the Army's Artificial Intelligence Scholar Program. She will graduate in May with a master's degree in information systems management-business intelligence and data analytics.
She was previously assigned as a military intelligence officer as part of the 5-4 Defense Artillery Regiment in Ansbach, Germany, and assignments included duties as a Battalion S2 for two years, where she led the battalion physical security program, participated in several multinational exercises and deployed to Kosovo to serve as an intelligence representative during the Afghanistan withdrawal. She also served as a headquarters battery executive officer for 12 months and organized and resourced all administrative, training and certification activities of 12 soldiers and officers, plus she managed the maintenance and operation of more than $59 million in equipment.
She received a bachelor of science degree in mathematical sciences from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and has been published in a peer-reviewed journal, Involve, A Journal of Mathematics. Her awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal and the Army Service Medal.
The students will be joined by family members while Gold Key Seniors will also invite teachers who have made an impact upon them as personal guests. About 13 faculty members will be in attendance.
