Plenty of eggs, fun at annual hunt

STEUBENVILLE -- Not even cold temperatures and a biting wind were enough to keep kids away from their date with the Easter bunny Saturday.
About 125 children ook part in the annual Steubenville Parks and Recreation Department's Easter Egg Hunt at Belleview Park, a little more than half the number they drew last year.
Parks and Recreation Director Lori Fetherolf said volunteers put out the 6,000 plastic eggs she and the staff at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center had filled with candy-- some of it donated by the city, the rest by the First Westminster Presbyterian Church congregation -- in record time.
"We had quite a few volunteers this morning, so it took us about 45 minutes to put them out," Fetherolf said. "It usually takes us an hour and a half, but we had about 10 young people that came out and helped us."
The kids came dressed for the weather with winter coats and mittens. Some paired their cold-weather garb with Easter dresses, others wrapped themselves with fleece blankets.
Fetherolf said there's no disputing the miserable weather was a factor in keeping families home.
"We would typically average about 200 kids," she said. "I think we had about 100, maybe 125 today (so) with 6,000 eggs everybody walks away with plenty -- that's my big thing, I don't want people to walk away with just one or two eggs."
