STEUBENVILLE -- An informational construction meeting for Phase 3 of Steubenville's Lovers Lane widening project has been scheduled, City Engineer Mike Dolak said.
Dolak told City Council last week the meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Schiappa Branch of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County, 4141 Mall Drive.
He said the meeting will address individual concerns regarding the upcoming construction work and traffic pattern changes during construction. Residents living within the construction area are encouraged to attend the meeting, he said.
City Manager Jim Mavromatis said bids for the old municipal building renovations will be opened at noon Friday.
Sixth Ward Councilman Mike Hernon scheduled a committee meeting for Feb. 27 to discuss the 2024/25 street projects and March 12 to discuss proposed Sunset Boulevard lane changes.
Law Director Dave Lewis also delivered his year-end financial report, telling council that the general fund balance looks healthy--around $8.1 million--but they need to remember the city requires a 10 percent fund balance and the state of Ohio generally likes to see cities maintain a two-to-three month operating cushion. Another $3 million has already been committed to the building renovations project, purchase of a generator to backup crucial operations and the North Community action plan.
"You never want to go to zero," Lewis cautioned.
He also told council there hasn't been much growth in income tax revenues, "it seems a little flat."
Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. today.
