Two jailed after Thursday search
STEUBENVILLE — Two people landed in jail after the Jefferson County Drug Task Force seized drugs and a firearm during a search Thursday at a residence on Sunset Boulevard.
The task force searched a property at 2614 Sunset Blvd., Apt. 2, where Tyler J. Pesta, 37, and Charles D. Cruse, 27, were arrested without incident, they said. Methamphetamine, a firearm and cash also were seized.
Pesta is charged with a felony count of possession of methamphetamine and a felony count of weapons under disability. Cruse is charged with a felony count of possession of methamphetamine. Both men are being held in the Jefferson County Justice Center pending arraignment.
Members of the Jefferson County SRT team and Steubenville Police Department assisted in the search.
The Drug Task Force is comprised of members from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Steubenville Police Department and the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Never Alone Kids to hold open house
WEIRTON – Never Alone Kids, a peer support group established to aide grieving children, teens and their adults, will host an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Weirton Christian Center, 117 Ivy St.
Counselors and volunteers will be on hand to discuss the program, which offers 10-week sessions which provide opportunities for youth to share their losses with others their own age3.
The open house will showcase some of the program’s activities and a chance to hear from some former participants.

Maintenance planned for Jennings Randolph Bridge
CHESTER – The Jennings Randolph Bridge will be restricted to one lane in each direction, beginning Wednesday for maintenance, according to the West Virginia Division of Highways.
The work is scheduled to go through March 31.
Motorists are advised to reduce speed in the area and expect delays. Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances may change the project schedule.
Work scheduled for S. 11th Street
WEIRTON – The Weirton Public Works Department announced a portion of South 11th Street will be closed for maintenance from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday.
The work zone will be located between Red Rider Road and Weir Avenue, weather permitting.
County Democrats make endorsements
STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Democratic Party voted Thursday night to endorse candidates for the March 19 primary election.
“We are excited to make these endorsements of our very qualified slate of candidates and encourage the people of Jefferson County to support them as well. We believe all of our candidates will make a positive impact in our county, state and nation,” said Chairman Eddie Abdalla.
Endorsements include: President, Joe Biden; U.S. Senate, Sherrod Brown; county prosecutor, Jane Hanlin; county commissioner, Thomas “Bo” Graham; county commissioner, Todd Mazzaferro; clerk of courts, Candy Newburn (write-in); Ohio Supreme Court, Justice Michael Donnelly; Ohio Supreme Court, Justice Melody Stewart; and Ohio Supreme Court, Judge Lisa Forbes.
Rayland water work planned
RAYLAND — Customers on Adams Lane could experience low or no pressure because of planned maintenance from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, according to the Jefferson County Water and Sewer District.
That area includes all of Connersville, Merkle Loop, state Route 150 from Adams Lane to the Church of God, Meadowbrook and lower end of county Road 14. Customers will be notified through an everbridge alert if a boil order will be issued, as well as on jcwatersewer.com.
Delays expected along state Route 7
MINGO JUNCTION — intermittent traffic delays are expected on state Route 7 near Mingo Junction from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Ohio Department of Transporation.
ODOT’s contractor will remove trees and rocks along the hillside during this time, which will require periodic traffic stoppages in both directions for safety purposes. L
aw enforcement officials will stop the traffic in both directions on the north and south ends of the project. ODOT advises motorists to expect delays lasting up to 15 minutes and plan accordingly to allow extra time for travel.
