DILLONVALE -- A Dillonvale man is facing charges after a violent domestic disturbance at his home, Sunday.
Officials with the Jefferson County Prosecutor's Office said Jonathan Gregory Kubacki, 41, 7296 state Route 150, Dillonvale, was charged with domestic violence after he allegedly went on a rampage Saturday, screaming obscenities, throwing beer bottles and other items at his girlfriend and exposing himself to his girlfriend's sister.
Sheriff's deputies said the girlfriend was "visibly upset" when they spoke with her and was "covered head-to-toe with bruises, scratches and a large knot on her head." She told deputies he'd been away visiting a family member, so she and her sister had a "girl's day" together, but when he got home he began yelling at her.
She said she went to bed to de-escalate things, but he woke her up because she was talking in her sleep, telling deputies that's "one of the things he gets easily irritated by." She said she tried to sleep on the floor and eventually went into the bathroom to play a game on her phone but alleged he followed her in, broke her phone and then body slammed her into the floor, bouncing her head off the bathtub.
She alleges he ripped the cable box out of the wall, causing the TV to fall on her legs, ripped the drawers out of the kitchen cabinets and threw them at her along with some knives he pulled out of the block on the counter. When her dog bit his arm to protect her, she told deputies he grabbed it by the collar and threw it against the wall, "then repeatedly kicked and punched it."
She said she threw herself on top of the dog to protect it and eventually was able to get up off the floor, then started removing the debris so the dogs wouldn't be harmed and had a knife in her hand when Kubacki charged her. Deputies said in their report that "in his attempt to attack (his girlfriend) he punctured his throat with the knife."
The girlfriend is not facing charges, prosecutors said.
His girlfriend's sister told deputies she'd gone to the residence to take her sister and the dogs to safety but when Kubacki saw her, he started screaming obscenities and grabbing items on the porch to throw at her. She said he had "a decent amount of blood" on him but when she asked him if he was all right told deputies he exposed himself to her.
She said the dog "has not stood up or walked since the incident, and yelps whenever touched."
Deputies report they had to push broken wood out of the way so (they) could get inside" the home and when they walked it looking for Kubacki they "noticed all the rooms had been destroyed."
They said they tried to speak with him but he "was in and out, due to him being very intoxicated" though he did claim his girlfriend stabbed him. He said he'd "been drinking all weekend and … couldn't remember when this had happened to him."
Deputies said Kubacki's chest and arms were covered in blood, so he was transported to East Ohio Regional Hospital for treatment.
