Electronics disposal offered
BEECH BOTTOM -- Brooke County residents will be able to dispose of a variety of electronic devices from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Brooke County Solid Waste Authority's Recycling Center, 744 Mac Barnes Drive.
The event is supported by a grant secured by the board from the the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.
There will be a ten item limit per vehicle, though keyboards, mice and mobile phones don't count toward it.
Other items that will be accepted include A/C adapters, audiovisual equipment such as DVD players, LCD and LED televisions and stereo equipment; various kinds of batteries, calculators, cameras, cellphones, laptop computers, printers, ink toners, computer components such as mainframes, hard drives, LCD monitors, keyboards and mice; scanners and other copy machines, typewriters, wires, cables and cords; dehumidifiers, electric fans, portable heaters, microwave ovens and other small appliances, vacuum cleaners, fax machines, medical devices and security equipment.
Participants should be prepared to show proof of residency.

Solid waste board to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson-Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority Board will hold its Regular monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Jefferson JBGT building, 228 Technology Way.
A personnel committee meeting has been scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to discuss the applications received for the Belmont program coordinator position.
County road work planned
STEUBENVILLE -- Next week's schedule for the Jefferson County Engineer's Office includes:
• Ditching: Various roads
• Patching: County Roads 36 (Fairplay-Seminary Road) and 38 (Beacon Ridge Road) and other roads
• Retaining wall repair: County Road 47 (JFK Highway)
• Bridge replacement: County Road 49 (Elkhorn Road)
•≤ Landslide-slip repair: County Road 26, Fernwood Road at Dogtown Hill, will be closed until further notice. Construction will start Monday.
Miscellaneous road closings will be announced.
Veterans asked to apply
COLUMBUS -- State Sen. Frank Hoagland, R-Mingo Junction, reminds service members who completed deployments in Afghanistan to apply for the Ohio Veterans Bonus program. The deadline to apply is Aug. 30.
He explained that $9.5 million was included in House Bill 33, the state's main operating budget, to ensure every veteran who qualifies can receive payment.
"Our heroes from the Afghanistan War command our upmost respect and gratitude," said Hoagland. "Our state budget includes critical funds to ensure these veterans receive their well-earned bonus payments. I encourage any eligible veterans to apply now."
Since 2010, the Ohio Veteran Bonus has paid $77.7 million to more than 97,000 veterans from the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq wars. There are approximately 32,000 Afghanistan veterans in Ohio, and 19,865 have received payouts thus far.
