Man charged with fleeing
WELLSBURG -- A Wellsburg man has been charged with fleeing an officer after being pursued by Brooke County sheriff's deputies while driving an all-terrain vehicle on Sept. 1.
The case against Ronald C. Bottorf III, 35, of 988 Northview Road, is pending in Brooke County Magistrate Court.
According to a criminal complaint, deputies were called to Bottorf's home because a no contact order had been issued against him through court. They said when they arrived, he drove away on an all-terrain vehicle and they later found him on Pot Rock Road.
The deputies said when they activated their lights, he changed direction, proceeding at a high rate of speed to state Route 27, where they lost him.
They found him again at his home, where he allegedly fled onto a trail, striking a fence post and was arrested later by the department.
Embezzlement charges filed
WELLSBURG -- A volunteer at the Brooke County Sportsman Club has been accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from it over several years.
The case against Shirley J. Morris, 59, of 287 Mahan Lane, Follansbee, is pending in Brooke County Magistrate Court.
The arrest came following an investigation by the Brooke County Sheriff's Department, which found Morris had taken about $13,000 from membership fees paid at five local businesses that she was responsible for collecting.
Morris allegedly confessed to the theft, saying she used the money for personal expenses, including medical bills she owed.
Food trucks set for Wednesdays
FOLLANSBEE -- Wild and Wonderful Wednesdays will continue this month from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. outside the Follansbee City Building, with different food trucks each week and often, live musical entertainment.
Scheduled this month are: Hornsdown BBQ on Sept. 13, Road Runner Dawgs on Sept. 20 and Revival Chili on Sept. 27.
Mac's Concession Ice Cream and Funnel Cakes will be there on all three days.
