Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle
WEIRTON -- A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking along the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 22 between the Harmon Creek and Main Street exits at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Brooke County Sheriff Rich Beatty didn't release the name of the woman, saying her family hadn't been notified.
Beatty said the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, appeared to be dressed mainly in dark clothing. He said a call had been made to the emergency 911 center prior to the accident by a driver concerned about her.
Beatty said the driver who struck her remained at the scene and was cooperating with the accident's investigation, which was not yet completed on Tuesday afternoon.
Bridge to close for inspection
FOLLANSBEE - The Market Street Bridge will be closed from 8 a.m. Monday to 3 p.m., Sept. 15, along with lane closures on the nearby spur of state Route 2, to allow for inspection and maintenance of the bridge.
When the bridge reopens, the maximum weight limit will be 3 tons and the maximum height will be 7 feet, 6 inches.
Traffic will be maintained across the Veterans Memorial Bridge. Motorists are advised to slow down and expect delays.
Ramp work scheduled
WEIRTON - The Ramp G Bridge in Weirton will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Sept. 14, for bridge inspection and maintenance.
U.S. Route 22 eastbound and westbound, from milepost 1.0 to milepost 1.3, will be reduced to one lane. Motorists are advised to follow the detour signs, reduce speed, and expect delays.
Alternate routes will include state Route 2 northbound to county Route 507 eastbound to county Route 1 southbound to Route 22 eastbound.
Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.
Paving scheduled through Friday
FOLLANSBEE - Several area roads will be restricted to one lane from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday for paving.
The roads include Shepherd Drive, Martin Avenue, Short Street, Arch Street, George Street, Spring Avenue and Center Avenue.
Emergency vehicles and school buses will be accommodated. Other motorists are advised to expect delays, with traffic maintained by flaggers.
Maintenance set on water system
WEIRTON - Crews from the Weirton Area Water Board will be working on the pressure reducing valve in the Country Club Estates area Thursday beginning at 8 a.m.
The affected areas include Country Club Estates, Fairway Hill, Lisa Court, Golden Key Acres, Barbour Drive, Princess Drive, the 2900 and 3000 blocks of Culler Road, Creekside Estates, the 4400 block of Kings Creek Road and the 4700 block of Kings Creek Road.
Customers may experience low or no water pressure during this time, and are advised to refrain from doing laundry because of the potential from iron staining. A boil order will be issued once the work is completed.
