WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A native of Weirton has been selected to serve as the new chief of staff for U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito.
J.T. Jezierski has been selected to take over the role, following the departure of long-time chief of staff Joel Brubaker, Capito's office announced Friday afternoon.
"J.T. has been a member of my staff since my very first day in the United States Senate, and I am excited that he will continue serving our great state of West Virginia as my new chief of staff. I am confident that J.T.'s knowledge, extensive government experience, and devotion to West Virginia have prepared him well for this role, and I know he will do a fantastic job in leading our team going forward," Capito said.
In his time with Capito's office, Jezierski has served as legislative director and director of appropriations.
He previously worked for former U.S. Rep. David McKinley and on the Congressional campaign of Evan Jenkins, as well as in the office of U.S. Rep. Pete Olson, R-Texas, and was on staff for the House Science, Space and Technology Committee.
Jezierski also served within the administration of former President George W. Bush at NASA and in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, on the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns for Mitt Romney and at DCI Group.
He earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Wheeling University and a Master of Arts in Public Policy from Regent University.
Brubaker, who has been Capito's chief of staff for 18 years, is leaving for a new opportunity outside of government, Capito's office said.
"I am incredibly grateful to Joel for his nearly two decades of service to West Virginia. Not only did Joel serve as my chief of staff, but he also was like a member of the Capito family, a great confidant, and a friend. He has been by my side through tough times, hard campaigns, long days and nights, missed vacations, and challenges associated with larger responsibilities. Joel has an enormous affection for the State of West Virginia, holding the same sense of pride in our foundations and aspirations, and for that I am forever thankful," Capito said.
