STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson County commissioners during Thursday's meeting granted a contractor more time to finish a resurfacing project.
Shelly & Sands requested more time to complete the work, which includes county Roads 50, 60, 75 and 75A, due to "a heavy workload and heavy rains this season."
The work was originally scheduled for completion by Sept. 8, but now they're targeting Sept. 29.
Commissioners said the company always has been a good supplier of asphalt.

≤ Learned county Engineer Jim Branagan recommends a viewing and public hearing to evaluate a petition requesting vacation of a portion of West Hill Street, also known as Smithfield Township Road 1701.
≤ Approved a joint bridge agreement with Harrison County for a bridge in Adena that needs to be replaced. The county line goes down the middle of the bridge, and prior to starting the work, they have agreed to share the financial burden: Harrison County will be responsible for normal routine maintenance, including plowing, mowing, grading approaches, minor debris removal and de-icing. Jefferson County will pick up the tab for bridge inspections. The counties will share the cost for preventative maintenance, rehabilitation, repair and construction projects that require hiring a contractor.
≤ Referred the three bids for the pavement marking project to Branagan for a recommendation. Submitting bids were JD Striping of Ravenna, $136,330.20; Arrowmark of Streetsboro, $118,498.96; and Oglesby Construction of Norwalk, $123,401.69. The engineer's estimate was $138,784.
≤ Signed off on OMERESA's agreement with Jefferson County courts for technology to beef up security, including computers, monitors, scanners, cameras and access controls, as well as licenses, server and network infrastructure. Commissioners said court funds will cover about $20,000 of the costs associated with the project, with grant funds covering the other $150,000.
≤ Appointed Commissioner Eric Timmons as a voting alternate representing Jefferson County on the County Risk Sharing Authority.
Timmons said he will be reappointing Lisa DiCarlo to the Jefferson County Port Authority. Her current term expires this month.
