NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Hancock County Board of Education met in special session Monday, continuing it work to fill various positions in preparation for the start of the school year this week.
Among the items approved Monday, following recommendations from Superintendent Dan Enich, was the naming of Chris Hill as assistant principal at Weirton Elementary and Scott Wiley as assistant principal at Oak Glen High School.
The two vacancies are the latest to be filled as a result of a chain of administrative promotions and transfers within the system in recent weeks.
Other personnel recommendations approved were the retirement of Cole Beaver as a countywide substitute teacher, and Russel E. Johnson as a Grade 2 teacher at Weirton Elementary; the transfer of Clayton Flowers from science teacher at Weir Middle to the same posts at Oak Glen Middle; the assignment of Macey Gump as a countywide substitute teacher; the resignation of Constantina Hajioannou as head boys' tennis coach at Weir High; and the assignment of Pat Chaney as an unpaid/volunteer assistant football coach at Oak Glen Middle.
The board approved a recommendation to grant two food truck drivers/custodians four extra days this month to receive deliveries at the Central Kitchen and properly distribute and organize food and non-food items.
Board member Larry Shaw asked how it would be determined who would be selected.
Enich noted he would check with Director of Child Nutrition Steve Govey to be sure.
"It's more days than personnel," Enich said. "I'm sure it's on seniority."
Among other approvals Monday were the transfer of Ray Six from unpaid/volunteer assistant volleyball coach at Oak Glen High to assistant volleyball coach at Oak Glen High; the resignation of Ellen F. Musgrave as bus operator; the transfer of Terri Rodriguez from Secretary II at Weirton Elementary to Secretary III at the Board Office; and the approval of Aryel D. Kintyhtt as substitute aide, Melissa A. Warzynski as substitute cook, and Phillip Sutton as substitute custodian.
In other business, Enich announced the school district had received a $1,000 contribution from Frank "Digger" Dawson of East Liverpool, for the purpose of establishing a charitable foundation to benefit the students of Hancock County Schools.
