WEIRTON -- This year's summer concert series at the Weirton Event Center will kick off Memorial Day weekend, with a schedule featuring a variety of musical performances.
In its 11th year, the 2023 Summer Concert Series will include 10 free community concerts, presented by the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Genres represented this year will range from country to rock, classics to "New Grass," and more, along with an appearance by the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast and a special Saturday performance by the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra as part of local Independence Day festivities.
The schedule includes:
— May 26: Let's Groove Tonight (Earth, Wind and Fire cover band), also featuring a car cruise.
— June 2: Pierce Edens (Appalachian rock) and Linden Melvin (Americana.)
— June 9: Gospel night with Friends Music Ministry, Linda Ross Brown, George Kokos and the K Band, and the Chrisagis Brothers.
— June 16: Hoard and Jones (rock), also featuring a car cruise.
— June 23: Dr. Zoot (music from the 1940s to 1970s.)
— June 30: Air National Guard Band of the Northeast (patriotic, military band.)
— July 1: Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, with the concert beginning at 8 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m.
— July 21: The Dirty Grass Players ("New Grass.")
— July 28: Full Circle Band (country rock), Retroactive Outrage (rock) and a car cruise.
— Aug. 4: Jersey (A Bruce Springsteen cover band.)
The Weirton Event Center is located at 3322 East St. Gates will open each concert evening at 6 p.m., with performances beginning at 7 p.m., unless otherwise noted. The Top of WV CVB is planning a rotation of food and beverage vendors at each concert.
