NEW CUMBERLAND -- The polling locations for two Hancock County precincts are being changed in preparation for this November's general election.

During Thursday's meeting of the Hancock County Commission, a proposal was approved to move the polling stations for Precinct 14 and Precinct 17.

Commissioner Eron Chek noted adjustments had been made, temporarily, for the primary election in May, and the commission wanted to make them permanent.

"We changed some polling places last time that worked out really well," Chek said.

Precinct 14 will move from the County Road fire station in Weirton to the Covenant Church located at 200 Pennsylvania Ave. in Weirton. Precinct 17, meanwhile, will move from the Marland Heights Community Church to the Weirton Senior Center.

Officials noted the changes would provide additional accessibility for residents voting in those precincts. No other changes were made as part of the order.

Notice of the changes will be made through a legal advertisement, with voters in those precincts also contacted by mail.

The general election is scheduled for Nov. 8.
