Jefferson County Joint Vocational School holds its Senior Recognition Ceremony

BLOOMINGDALE — The latest group of graduates were in the spotlight as the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School held its Senior Recognition Ceremony May 16.

Passports, awards and about $40,000 in scholarships were doled out among more than 100 seniors in the school commons. Supervisor/Principal Dan Hartman offeredtha welcome and Superintendent Todd Phillipson spoke.

Keynote speaker Jonathan Cortez, a 2015 graduate, told the grads that the JVS helped determine his future. He studied in the health technologies program and went on to become an emergency room nurse at Trinity Medical Center West.

Awards and scholarships followed for those in the 15 programs from auto collision technologies to welding. Scholarship recipients included Coleman Cooper, $100 Blaner Gift; Katelyn Gallagher, $100 Borden Office Equipment Scholarship; Bailey Ebright, $200 Dr. Tom and Suzanne Brown Scholarship and $500 I Can Succeed Scholarship; Micaila McMillion, $500 Tony D’Aurora Memorial Scholarship; Fred Jones, $100 Christopher Sprouse Memorial Scholarship and Bergholz Foundation Scholarship; Kayla White, EGCC Academic Scholarship; Nathan Eddy, $400 Bob Eddy Scholarship; Harlee Barbour, $300 Geno Morelli Memorial Scholarship and $300 JCJVS Teacher Association/OEA Scholarship; Tyler Sipes, $1,000 Harry E. Scott Memorial Scholarship; Camden Parsons, Laci Gear and Harlee Barbour, Charles M. Pugliese and Thelma M. Pugliese Charitable Foundation Scholarships for $1,000 each; Riley Doyle, $400 Weirton Lumber Company Scholarship; Hunter McFadden, $10,000 Ohio CAT Think Big Scholarship; Dylan Ash ($500) and David Jenkins ($250), Mike “Mags” Cicone Scholarships; Dylan Cucarese, $10,000 Lou Holtz Life Improvement Scholarship with $10,000 match from PTI; Leanna Smith, $250 Dr. David Robinson Scholarship; and Bailey Fillman, $500 Rick Finney Scholarship.

Honors were further distributed for one year of perfect attendance to Camden Parsons, Duayne Wetherell and Tomasso Toriscelli. Vocational and Academic Awards of Distinction went to Austin Stewart, Jacob Hojonski, Devin Cucarese, Isabella Moss, Alexis Rager, Zackeryus Prager, Janelle Lott, Tyler Sipes, Kristen Carroll, Camden Parsons, Dylan Kernen, Jessica Nelson, Hunter Springer, Gabe Hurdle, Skylee Ward, Maverick Woodward, Jason Burrows, Abigail Cronin, Deserae Francis, Shiann Hankett, Luke Darrah and Taryn Dulkowski. Vocational and Academic Awards of Excellence were also presented to Vivian Dubravski, Tomasso Toriscelli, Raleigh Doyle, Kylie Clark, Teresa (Mia) Gabrielli, Kayla White, Kylie Gura, Keenen Alston, Bailey Ebright, Harlee Barbour, Duayne Wetherell, Leanna Smith, Dylan Harris, Coleman Cooper, John Keyoski, Jordan Howder, Clariss Gross, Haley Burgess and Keenan Alston. Meanwhile, National Technical Honor Society members were touted including Harlee Barbour, Haylee Burgess, Kaylee Carpenter, Kylie Clark, Coleman Cooper, Bailey Ebright, William Evans, Crystal Fisher, Laci Gear, Cloa James, Seth Lewis, Micaila McMillion, Camden Parsons, Samantha Price, Allison Robinette, Andrew Schrock, Leanna Smith, Duayne Wetherell and Kayla White for two years and Kayleigh Diekmann, Teresa (Mia) Gabrielli, Aliyah Morris and Kylie Gura, one year.
