NEW CUMBERLAND - The Hancock County Commission has renewed its agreement with an agency it has tasked with seeking out grants to fund various projects in the county.
As part of Thursday's commission meeting, a contractual agreement with Edmiston Development Services LLC was approved 3-0, at a total cost of $14,500.
The company is owned by Joseph R. Edmiston, who, according to the agreement, has a background in development, grant writing and fundraising. The commission will be responsible for all final decisions in grant applications.
"He has worked on several grants," Commission President Paul Cowey explained during Thursday's meeting. "We look forward to bringing more to the county."
The commission approved its initial agreement with Edmiston Development in July 2021 at the same cost, with plans to cover a one-year period and 20 grant submissions.
The new agreement, set to begin July 14, also will cover 20 grant submissions with the fee made through three payments; the first of $7,250 upon signing the contract, the second of $3,625 due Oct. 1, and the final payment of $3,625 on Feb. 1, 2023.
The agreement will be in effect until July 13, 2023.
In other business, the commission approved several board appointments, including Ronnie Jones to the county health board; John Sorrenti and Courtney Petrovich to the Northern Panhandle Workforce Development Board; and agreed to advertise for up to three positions on the Northern Panhandle HOME Consortium.
A letter of permission to the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration was approved for the Hoopie Mountain Music Festival, to take place July 27 to Aug. 1 at Get Togethers Picnic Grounds in Weirton.
The commission also recognized the upcoming National Field Day event, organized through the Hancock County Auxcomm Team, to be held 2 p.m. Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday at the athletic fields on Gas Valley Road. A proclamation was approved in recognition of Amateur Radio Week.
New mileage rates of 62.5 cents per mile were approved, to be in effect July 1 to Dec. 31, and, in personnel matters, the commission approved the hiring of Sydney Brown as a part-time animal care technician at the Hancock County Animal Shelter, and approved to pay Rhonda Dennis for accrued vacation time, with commissioners wishing Dennis well following more than 25 years with the county.
