Thursday marked the National Day of Prayer event, and several communities in the Ohio Valley had gatherings for the event. Held on the first Thursday of May, the event has been set aside as a day to ask for God's help for our communities, our states and our nation. The annual event has been held nationally since 1952, with local events in our area more than 30 years. In downtown Steubenville, the event was held near the fountain in Old Fort Steuben Park. Prayers were offered for families, military personnel and first responders, government, education, churches, media and businesses. A moment of silence was observed for families who lost loved ones due to the pandemic.
