WINTERSVILLE -- Voters in the Indian Creek School District will be asked to support renewal of its five-year operating levy.
Indian Creek Superintendent T.C. Chappelear said the 7.9 mill levy generates $3,043,594 per year for "day to day operating expenses, from salaries to textbooks and computers, all the things we need to operate schools."
"This is money we depend on and it would be a hardship if it weren't to pass," he said, noting its passage will result in no new taxes for residents.
Chappelear said he's thankful the community has supported its renewal a few times since it was introduced in 1996.
Its passage depends on the support of more than 50 percent of voters.
In 2015, a majority of voters last approved the levy, and Chappelear called it "crucial to the operation of our school district."
"This levy provides the district with approximately $2.4 million annually and is money that we could not do what we do without it," he said. "This money is as important now as it was when the levy was passed for the first time. It really allows us to provide the services that our kids deserve and have come to expect."
