STEUBENVILLE — The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County is reopening its doors on July 6, giving customers access to services, but in a limited capacity in order to maintain a safeguarded environment.

Director Mike Gray said the countywide library system is working in compliance with county and state directives.

“We continue to gradually and cautiously reopen,” Gray said. “We encourage our customers to use the library but not as a leisurely visit, for now, in an effort to keep everyone safe.”

Once entering the building, customers are encouraged to wear a face mask. Gray said the library will provide face masks to those who would like to wear one in the building but didn’t bring one, while supplies last. At the checkout desks, floors are marked to keep customers socially distanced at 6 feet apart.

Library users will be required to reserve time at the computers and for no more than one hour, while reservations for browsing shelves, research, or making copies are recommended but not required.

At this time, toys and play areas for children are closed, according to library officials. Children 12 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Study rooms and meeting rooms are also not available to the public.

Programming inside the library is canceled, and library staff has scheduled virtual programming for the Summer Reading Challenge program happening now through July 18 for children, teens and adults.

Virtual programming is listed and linked to the Summer Reading Challenge page which is located on the front of the library’s website.
