June 29: Events canceled/postponed due to coronavirus

Due to the precautions being taken surrounding the coronavirus, the following changes have been made regarding events and meetings in the local area:

¯ The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will reopen July 6 in a limited capacity. Curbside pickup service also is available.

¯ Cadiz’s annual fireworks display has been canceled.

¯ The 74th-annual Weirton Steel Corp. 25-Year Club picnic set for July 18 has been canceled.

¯ A Caring Place Child Advocacy Center has canceled what would have been its rescheduled casino night fundraiser on July 18 at the Steubenville Country Club.

¯ All military meetings for the Jefferson County Veterans Association have been canceled until the end of summer. The cancellations include the annual Memorial Day service held at the Friendship Park Memorial Museum, where the World War II equipment is on display.

¯ The Steubenville Rotary Club has suspended its weekly Friday meetings until further notice.

¯ Perpetual adoration in the Portiuncula Chapel on the campus of the Franciscan University of Steubenville has been is suspended, but the chapel will remain open for prayer each day from 5 a.m. to midnight. The monstrance will not be exposed.

¯ The Thursday Toronto Senior Citizens meetings and trips have been canceled.

¯ The Public Employees Retirement Inc. Chapter 5, District 9 has canceled its June and July meetings.

¯ The Four Seasons Senior Citizens have canceled their meetings for the time being.

¯ The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club has canceled all remaining spring turkey shoots.

¯ The Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church’s “Together” dinners on Wednesday are canceled until further notice.

¯ Visitation at the Jefferson County Jail has been suspended until further notice, Sheriff Fred Abdalla has announced. The only exception will be for attorneys who are visiting their clients.

¯ All Steubenville city playgrounds and basketball courts remain closed.

¯ The Brooke County Courthouse is opened to the public for limited reasons. Call the department needed for details.

¯ The Weirton Municipal Building is closed until further notice.

¯ The Mary H. Weir Public Library is closed until further notice.

¯ Wintersville village offices have been closed.

¯ The board of directors of the Weirton Senior Center has decided to close the center until further notice. The Hancock Brooke Nutrition program is making frozen meals available to pick up at the senior center today through Friday. Anyone who has ordered a meal for this week can pick it up at the door of the center.
