Concert postponed in Steubenville; Independence Day fireworks a go

By LINDA HARRIS 1 min read

STEUBENVILLE -- Thursday night’s Summer Concert Series kickoff has been postponed, but city officials have been given the go-ahead to schedule Independence Day fireworks at Historic Fort Steuben Park on July 2.

Steubenville Mayor and Historic Fort Steuben President Jerry Barilla said he’s glad they can make plans for fireworks, but they’d thought they were in the clear to launch the Summer Concert Series at the Berkman Amphitheater when they agreed to require concert-goers to practice social distancing, sit in chairs or on blankets and request they wear masks, but it wasn’t enough.

He stressed that Thursday’s concert is the only one they’ve canceled as of now.

“The fireworks are going to happen, and I’m thrilled,” Barilla said. “It’s an American tradition, we need to honor our nation, celebrate Independence Day, and honor those men and women who gave their lives to make us a free nation.”

Thursday’s concert, which was to feature Spinning Jenny and US Kids, will be rescheduled for August, he said.
