Blessing held for health care workers

STEUBENVILLE -- Trinity Health System joined with the city officials to say thank you to its health care workers Monday, the start of National Hospital Week.
Several dozen employees gathered outside Trinity Medical Center West for the ceremony, which featured Steubenville City Manager Jim Mavromatis reading from a proclamation that will be presented at this evening's City Council meeting thanking health care workers throughout the area, in particular recognizing Trinity's "rich and lengthy history" and encouraging residents to show their appreciation "and recognize the vital role that hospitals play in our communities and health care delivery system."
"They've been under trying times the last couple of months," Mavromatis said.
"We send our military into wars all time, they know who the enemy is. But these people everyday are fighting a war where they don't see the enemy, they have to sit and wait for it to come to them. Thats what makes it so dangerous. But day in, day out they've been there doing their job," he added.
The Rev. Thomas Nau called for "blessings and sanctifying so the sick could be freed of illness and restored in body and mind."
Trinity CEO Matt Grimshaw said it's "more important than ever to take the time to celebrate all the people who make this organization work."
"Every one of them plays a vital role," he said.
Trinity's celebration will continue with daily activities at Trinity East and Trinity West ranging from breakfast and dinner snacks for employees to departmental blessings by pastoral care and a food truck luncheon.
