CADIZ -- Harrison County, among the last counties in Ohio to report a confirmed case of the new coronavirus, saw its case total double Saturday from two to four in a span of several hours.
The Harrison County General Health District on Saturday morning announced its third positive test for the virus, from a male in his 70s who was identified as a "close contact of a confirmed positive case."
The man had been previously identified through the contact tracing process and was under quarantine at home. He is now isolated in a hospital setting, according to a release from the health department.
Later Saturday evening, officials announced a fourth case, that of a female in her 40s who is "a close contact of a confirmed positive case from another county."
That individual is recovering at home, according to the health department.
Health officials said they won't release any additional demographic information, and are encouraging residents to stay home and maintain social distancing.
In neighboring Jefferson County, officials confirmed three additional cases of the virus, bringing the county's total to 35. That total includes one death and 19 recoveries, leaving a total of 15 active cases in the county.
Local case totals across the river in West Virginia held steady Saturday, with seven in Hancock County and three in Brooke County. The Hancock County Health Department has said all seven people who tested positive have recovered, while Brooke County has reported one recovery.
