NEW CUMBERLAND -- Council Monday passed the first reading on an ordinance increasing the rates, fees and charges for water service. The increase is a result of the water system update.

Hawkins reported the water project is moving along and she hopes it goes to bid within the next five months. Hawkins said the city is currently getting the project's paperwork in order.
