STEUBENVILLE -- The Visitors Center celebrated the winning entries from the 2019 Sights and Sounds of Christmas: Nutcracker Magic Parade on Friday.

Judges picked three floats, three non-floats and a grand prize winner for Best in Parade. Mayor Jerry Barilla also selected a Mayor's Award winner.

"I know the judges had a tough time making their decision," explained Mary Snyder of the Visitor Center. "We had so many floats and eager participants. In addition to the judges, the mayor also made a selection so there are eight awarded in all."

Winning entries were:

¯ Floats: Boy Scouts, Ohio River Valley Council, first; First Choice America Federal Credit Union, second; and Wells Academy/Steubenville City Schools, third.

¯ Non-floats: Eastern Construction and Excavating, first; Steubenville Aladdin Shrine Motor Patrol Unit, second; and Harding Middle School Band, third.

¯ Grand Prize/Best in Parade: McKinley STEM Academy.

¯ Mayor's Award: Grand Theater Restoration.

The winning entries each received a collectible 2019 Steubenville Nutcracker. The grand prize and mayor's award winners also received certificates.

"The weather really put a damper on the attendance and several units had to drop out, but those who braved the rain deserve credit for keeping the show going," Snyder added. "We are grateful to Team Automotive Group and Trinity Health Systems for their support of this popular community event."

Parade judges were representatives from three of the city's service clubs: Mike Mihalik of the Steubenville Rotary, Beth Rupert-Warren of the Steubenville Kiwanis Club, and Domenick Mucci of the Steubenville Lions Club.
