Six injured in Wilson Avenue car accident

MINGO JUNCTION — Six people were injured in a two-vehicle collision around 6:58 p.m. Monday on Wilson Avenue, near Electric Avenue, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

A vehicle driven by Natasha Abercrombie, 32, of Mingo Junction was traveling east on Wilson Avenue when she apparently attempted to pass a pickup truck, the patrol reported. Her vehicle hit a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, which was driven by Denise Srock, 49, of Mingo Junction, a trooper said.

Abercrombie, Srock and three juvenile passengers in Abercrombie’s vehicle were taken to Trinity Medical Center West, the patrol reported. A 15-year old in Abercrombie’s vehicle was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital, the patrol reported.

The accident remains under investigation.

City man sent to prison for five years for drugs

STEUBENVILLE — Dorian L. Patton, 30, of Steubenville was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr. after Patton pleaded guilty to drug charges.

Patton pleaded guilty to possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine, in addition to misdemeanor counts of failure to comply with the order of a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.

City Police were attempting to stop Patton for driving with a suspended license on March 19 at Linden Avenue and Slack Street, when he eventually led police on a foot chase that ended on Hill Street.

Upon searching his car and his person, officers stated they found a “large amount of drugs” and cash.

Bruzzese sentenced Patton to four mandatory years in prison on the drug charges and an additional one year in prison for violating his parole. The court noted it will be Patton’s fourth time in prison.

The judge ordered $2,411 taken from Patton be forfeited to City Police.

He faces 18 months in prison if he violates probation.

Woman bled to death from Great Dane bites

WAYNESVILLE, Ohio — A woman bitten to death by one or both of her pet Great Danes had alcoholism and may not have been clear-headed enough to seek help after she was attacked, authorities said.

Preliminary findings indicate Mary Matthews, 49, apparently bled to death, said Doyle Burke, chief investigator with the Warren County coroner’s office in Ohio.

The dogs were known to be aggressive and had bitten people before, authorities said. Her husband, Mark Matthews, said that he and his wife rescued the dogs about two years ago and that one had bitten him recently.

“I wanted to get rid of him, but she wouldn’t,” Mark Matthews told television station WLWT. “She loves animals.”

Both Great Danes — one of the largest breeds of dog but known for a generally docile temperament — have been euthanized.

Mark Matthews, who had been in the county jail since Oct. 30, found her body Friday upon returning to the couple’s home south of Dayton, authorities said. Police didn’t specify when they believe the attack occurred.
