All three Steubenville elementary schools earn straight A’s
STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville City Board of Education learned during Wednesday’s meeting that its three elementary schools, Wells Academy, East Garfield Elementary and Pugliese West Elementary, have been awarded straight A’s by the Ohio Department of Education.
The schools were part of a group of 57 schools from two districts to get a perfect score.
Wells and Pugliese also were designated as high performing schools. It was an honor earned by just three schools in the state.
Board members also accepted a $2,000 donation from the Friends of Steubenville Schools Fine Arts. The money will be split three ways — $700 will be given the high school drama department, $700 to the orchestra and $600 to the choir.
The board also accepted a $5,000 donation from Margie Kloska; voted to allow the Area 9 Special Olympics to use the Big Red track on May 4 for its spring games; and expanded the College Credit Plus Agreement to include the University of Toledo and Kent State University.
The following volunteers were approved pending receiving their pupil activity permits: Matt Davis, Harding football and sixth-grade girls basketball; Rich Blackburn, ninth-grade basketball; Julia Beadling, swimming; Everett Mitchell, track; and Paul Larue, track.
