Local riders to compete at rodeo
LISBON — Current world champion bull rider Corey Bailey will be competing Saturday during the 2018 Hoppel’s Championship Rodeo, and he hopes to keep his title.
Shawn Minor, 27-time world championship titles in All-Around, Bareback and Saddle Bronc Riding, also will be competing this weekend.
Cowboys and cowgirls from 16 states and Canada will be competing for points to qualify for the International Finals Rodeo in January in Oklahoma City.
The competitors will match up with the some of the toughest bulls and broncs in the area, including J4 bareback bucking horse of the year, Quiet Riot, and two-time bull of the year and four-time saddle bronc of the year, Kerosene, according to officials.
Local bull riders who have entered to compete today are Jerry Vance of Carrollton, Brett Maurer of Rogers; Travis Rogan of Lisbon; Thomas Dindel of Youngstown; and Justin Givens of East Palestine
Local bull riders for Saturday are: Patrick Norge of Enon Valley, Pa., and Malik Martin of Niles
Local cowgirl contestants for barrel racing on Friday are Desiree Pesko of Minerva; Paige Sanor, Beloit; Amy Rogan, Lisbon; Megan Cusick, Wellsville; Gionna Hammerle, Wellsville; Margaret Rusmisel, Negley; Hailie Liberty, Darlington, Pa.; Micaela Woloszyn, Midland, Pa.; Janet Kerr, Rogers, and Kylie Stoneman, Lisbon
Contestants for barrel racing on Saturday are Tiffany Beverly of North Lima; Kelli Dunn, New Cumberland; Kaitlyn Blackburn, Carrollton; Jada Gailey, Industry; Liz Mitchell, Paris, Pa.; and Macie Davidson, Salem.
Hoppel’s Arena is located on state Route 518.
Events at 7 p.m. today are free to veterans who have military identification.
Fireworks are planned Saturday evening.
Concessions are available, along with several vendors.
Tickets can be purchased online at Eventbrite.com, and tickets at the gate are $10 for those ages 4-12; $15, ages 13 and up; and free for those 3 and under.
