WEST LIBERTY — West Liberty University’s Alpha Xi Delta sorority organized a Light Up Blue night in support of Autism Speaks, the national autism awareness organization, with a variety of activities on campus Tuesday.

“Our sorority helps to spread the message about autism and supports the work of Autism Speaks, a national organization,” said Taylor Curry, a sophomore nursing student from Columbus.

Curry is the financial vice president of the sorority.

Curry was joined by two of her sorority sisters, Megan Lees, a junior criminal justice major from Wellsburg, and Fallyn Yonish, a sophomore elementary education major from Wheeling in planning the event.

President Stephen Greiner assisted the sorority by throwing the switch for blue lights in the breezeway of Main Hall and the new WLU Fire Pit, located on the quad.

The sorority sponsored activities and quarter games as part of Tuesday’s event. Blue glow sticks, desserts and blue Kool-Aid also were available to guests.

The sorority’s efforts at autism awareness continue all month long, according to Curry, including a “dine to donate” fundraiser at Tudor’s Biscuit World in Weirton on April 14.

The sorority will sell blue sno-cones in the College Union on April 18, and on April 26 they are planning a football frenzy game where all proceeds go to Autism Speak.

Anyone who signs up to play pays a fee, according to Yonish.

“We are looking forward to a successful month of supporting this worthy cause, and we thank everyone in advance for their help. We especially thank President Greiner for throwing the switch and helping us on our Light Up Blue night,” Yonish added.
