Police reports

Steubenville Police

Loaded her pockets: A North Seventh Street resident told police he had been robbed, Wednesday. He said he met the woman Sunday and saw her again the following day and ended up taking her to his apartment where he cooked her some food and then fell asleep. He said when he woke up she was gone, along with his wallet and some clothes. He said his Ohio ID, a Chime debit card, his military ID and about $200 in cash were in his wallet.

Helped himself: A Market Street resident said a male known to her stole her cell phone and two keys, Wednesday. She said he “came to her apartment last night and refused to leave.” When he finally left he took her cell phone, her house key and a mailbox key.

Worried: Family members claimed a woman was trespassing at an apartment in the 400 block of Lovers Lane and wanted her removed but police told them she’d been there long enough to establish residency and would have to be legally evicted, Wednesday. The actual tenant told police he’s afraid of the woman and he’d been warned by the property managers that he would be evicted if she doesn’t leave. Family members voiced concern for his health and well-being should she remain. Police did tell her she has to return the tenants’ car.

Booked: A city resident who police say nearly hit a cruiser on Washington Street Hill ended up in custody after they allegedly found drugs in the vehicle, Thursday. Police allege Ericka J. Melara, 26, 711 Kendall Ave., Steubenville, told them the near-miss was because she “had a spider or some kind of bug on her and she swiped it off” and that the cannister they found containing .6 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine base belonged to a family member who actually drives the vehicle on a regular basis. Police reported finding receipts from gas stations in Sandusky, Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland, as well as toll receipts from New Jersey, and said Melara told them her dog died so she drove to Detroit to return some things her ex-boyfriend had bought for it. Police said since the vehicle was in her possession when the alleged contraband was found, Melara was charged with possession of drugs.

Shadowed: A city resident visiting Beatty Park told police he’s being harassed, Wednesday. He said his ex-wife and his cousin were following him around and he just wanted to be left alone. Police stood by while he left.

Left behind: A caller reported a woman “waving down cars, asking for a ride,” Wednesday. She told police her friends had left her stranded and she needed a ride to Weirton, so police got her across the bridge.
