Steubenville Police

Rescue: A caller reported a dog locked in the restroom at Belleview Park, Friday. Police found a small terrier in the building and said no one was around.

Causing problems: A woman was harassing an employee at a downtown gas station, Friday. Police said when they got there the woman was staring at the pumps and as they approached she started “quickly walking” away but stopped when they told her to, then started yelling, “I wasn’t harassing anyone.”

When asked her name she started walking away again. The employee said the woman “entered the store several times and began yelling,” then left the store but stood outside and stared at her through the window. At the employee’s request, the woman was told to leave and not return.

Later in shift the same woman was found lying face down on a bench at North End park. Police told her she needed to move on since the park closes at dark.

Sad state: A man caused a disturbance at a nursing home, Friday. Staff said he “was confused and (wanted) to remove his wife from the facility,” and became “angry and argumentative.” He was gone when police arrived but they said he mentioned “returning with a firearm.” Police located the man, who told them he wanted to bring his wife home. He was advised to follow up with the staff during normal business hours Monday, and police suggested he take someone with him. He denied threatening to return with a gun.

Halloween horror: Police gave a juvenile a ride home from a downtown gas station, Friday. He said he was “running from Freddy Kruger and Michael Myers.”

Pipe down: A disturbance was reported in the 700 block of North Sixth Avenue, Friday. Police located the man, who told them he was listening to music “and did not realize how loud he was singing due to (his) headphones.”

Questions: A caller requested a welfare check on a Garrett Avenue residence, claiming the individual was threatening self-harm. Police spoke with the woman, who said she was fine “and her ex who lives in Columbus was just trying to have the police sent to (her) residence.”

Targeted: A downtown resident told police her old Facebook account had been hacked and now the hacker is using it to send messages “threatening her life,” Saturday. Police advised the woman to block the account and report the problem to Facebook.

No trust: A disturbance was reported in the 800 block of Buckeye Street, Saturday. Upon arrival police spoke with a man who said his wife “followed him to the residence due to not believing that was where he was going.” She left before police arrived.

Theft: A Mingo Junction resident said someone has her “ATM sleeve bag” containing her wallet, a flip phone, two rolls of quarters, $588 in cash, laundry detergent and dish soap, Friday. She said she told police she thinks someone picked it up off the ground while she was waiting to board the bus in front of Kroger.

Denial: Steubenville firefighters told police they treated a man in the 700 block of Rosswell Avenue for an overdose, Friday, but he refused to admit using drugs. Police said witnesses “would not confirm any drug use.”

Blocked: A Norton Place resident told police she returned home to find a car blocking her driveway, Friday. Police said the car was still there when they arrived, so they ticketed the owner of the vehicle, who arrived in time to accept it and move her car.

No answer: A disturbance was reported in the 1300 block of Oregon Avenue, Saturday. Police said when they tried to make contact with the parties they saw a woman “ignore the door and go into the basement.”

False alarm: A woman refused to identify herself or open the door when police responded to a disturbance at a second-floor apartment in the 1400 block of Oakgrove Ave., Saturday. She did tell them she was OK and advised she’d been arguing with a male. He told them the woman’s name and said the argument was over prior to their arrival.

One cited, one booked: A driver was cited and a passenger charged with falsification after she allegedly gave them a fictitious name during a traffic stop on North Seventh and Acme streets, Saturday. Police said Eric Nelson, 61, 88 St. Johns Road, Weirton, was cited for expired/unlawful plates after police determined the plates on his vehicle didn’t match the Hyundai he was driving.

Police said his passenger, Kristina Spencer, 35, also of 88 St. Johns Road, told them she used someone else’s name because she was wanted by Harrison County. Spencer was booked into the county jail for the outstanding warrant for probation violation out of Harrison County along with the falsification charge, they said.

Jammed: A disturbance was reported at a drive-through in the 2200 block of Sunset Boulevard, but the vehicle was gone when police arrived, Saturday.

A short time later police had to return, this time because “a male and female (were) shoving one another into traffic.” The female didn’t want to talk with police there, but the mal said they’d had a “verbal argument and … everything was OK.” She flagged an officer down later, saying she didn’t want to pursue charges but had been advised she needed to to “avoid getting jammed up.” Police advised their report would be forwarded to the prosecutor.

Booked: Justin Brown, 35, 1503 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, parole violation, Sunday;
