Brooke County sheriff

Arrested: Christopher J. Williams II, 43, 101 Spring St., Follansbee, domestic assault and destruction of property, Sunday.

Steubenville police

Concerning: Several callers reported hearing shots fired in the 1300 block of Wellesley, Tuesday. One resident reported hearing a shot followed by glass breaking, then five to seven additional shots on Pittsburgh Street. A .40 caliber casing was recovered on Pittsburgh Street, but no broken glass was located.

Unwelcome: Officers were able to convince a groundhog to leave a shelter in Jim Woods Park, Tuesday. The animal relocated to the woods, police said.

Unhappy: A woman hospitalized at Trinity West told police a female known to her had threatened to beat her up as well as the father of her baby, Tuesday.

Booked: John A. Palmer, 29, 329 Logan Ave., Mingo Junction, possession of drugs, Tuesday. Police said Palmer was taken into custody after callers reported a seemingly intoxicated male entering vehicles in the vicinity of Crestline Drive. When they arrived on scene, a resident told police he’d caught Palmer in his truck and told him to get out but said he didn’t want to press charges even though he’d managed to get the engine running. Police said Palmer appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and did not know where he was or how he got there. Palmer allegedly told Steubenville EMS he’d used heroin earlier in the day.

Missing: A man parked his manual transmission car in the Legal Hair lot and when he came out discovered it was missing, Tuesday. He said he found the car crashed into a nearby garage, and theorizes he forgot to put the vehicle in park. Residents said they heard the crash, but no one was in the vehicle at the time. Police said it appeared the vehicle rolled through the lot, down and embankment, through another empty lot and into the garage, which suffered heavy damage along with the vehicle.

Booked: Callers spotted a man climbing through a window in the 300 block of South Seventh Street, Tuesday. The man told police he forgot his house key, but the owner of the building was home and he and his girlfriend had permission to be inside. The owner confirmed that, but police also confirmed an outstanding warrant on the man’s girlfriend. Cara J. Crabtree, 37, 317 South Seventh St., was booked on the bench warrant.

Booked: Callers reported a man sleeping on the stage at Berkman Amphitheater, Tuesday. Police discovered the man, who is homeless, has two active warrants. Alan Martin, 38, was held in the jail without bond on warrants for petit theft.

Vicious: One cat was bitten, and another believed killed by two dogs roaming free in the vicinity of the 800 block of Oakmont Avenue, Tuesday. Officer’s saw a bite mark on the surviving cat’s rear leg, and not long after spotted the dogs on Claire Street at Pine, where they also found the body of a cat in the street. He was unable to locate the owner of the dogs, so they were corralled until the dog warden could take custody of them.

Booked: Police said a woman tried to leave Walmart with clothes, personal hygiene and food items valued at $430 that she hadn’t paid for, Tuesday. Katelyn Rose Lehosky, 23, Ardara Pa., was charged with petit theft and falsification and cited for an open container after she allegedly lied to police about her identity. Police report the woman appeared under the influence and gave them a fictitious name, birthdate and Social Security numbers, and say she eventually admitted she had an outstanding warrant in Allegheny County.

Suspicious: A Tweed Avenue resident said the driver of a brown four-door sedan parked near his driveway followed him down the street when he left for work, but turned around and went back toward his residence, Tuesday.

Brazen: A manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods reported a female came into the store with a duffel bag and stole nearly $300 in shoes and clothes, Tuesday. The thief was wearing a light pink ball cap, grey shirt and black pants and fled in a blue Hyundai hatchback that was waiting at the curb.

Code issues: A notice of violation was sent to the owner of property at 118 Logan St., litter.

Served: Michelle L. Pasco, 43, 1654 Roosevelt Ave., warrant for failure to appear, Tuesday.

Booked: Cheronda Bishop, 26, 1416 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, warrant out of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, for interference with custody (contempt), Tuesday.

Cited: Zachary T. Henderson, 33, 2012 Maple Ave., Wellsburg, no operator’s license; Shontee S. Wallace, 40, Christopher Ave., Wintersville, assured clear distance ahead; Autumn Storm Ayers, 31, 156 Weirview St., Weirton, driving under suspension and expired plates.

Conned: An Arlington Avenue resident said she was bilked out of $381 by a man claiming to represent Publisher’s Clearinghouse, Tuesday. She said the man told her she’d won $3 million and a new car and convinced her to give him her driver’s license number and the PIN number to a VISA card to cover towing fees. She said the man then asked her for another $5,000, which she was unwilling to do.

Jefferson County sheriff

Cat-napped: A Rayland woman reported a neighbor is harassing her boyfriend’s 12-year-old daughter, Tuesday. The caller said the 58-year-old woman showed up at their door with the child’s cat in a trap and said if it shows up on her property again, she would kill it. The caller said it’s an outdoor cat and it follows the neighbor’s cat home but they’d do their best to keep their feline indoors.

Ex help: Smithfield woman told deputies she needed help collecting her belongings from the home she’d shared with her boyfriend because the man was following her around, pushing her through the house, Tuesday. The man was at a friend’s house when deputies arrived and told them they’d been arguing. He said she’d broken his television so he’d told her to gather her belongings and get out of his house. The female said he’d pushed her around the house while they argued, smashing her pinky finger and leaving a large red mark on her chest. Deputies observed neither, and no one wanted to file charges.

False alarm: A woman slumped over the steering wheel of her car at a gas pump at a Smithfield gas station with the engine running told deputies she fell asleep waiting for the station to open, Tuesday.

Time to go: A Ridgewood Apartment resident told deputies she asked a man to leave her apartment because he was strung out on drugs and became belligerent, Tuesday. She said he left, but he took her cell phone, $850 in cash and her medication, but left his cell.
