Bad mix: Alcohol and a missing wallet led to a fight inside an Island Creek township club, Thursday. Deputies said a Steubenville man told them when his wallet came up missing, he fought with a man he thought had it. He said after a few minutes the other man, a Toronto resident, ran outside, got in his Dodge Durango and revved up the engine, then backed into his car. He said the driver also struck his brother, also Toronto resident, and dragged him several feet before speeding away with a flat tire. The driver’s sister, who deputies said was “very visibly intoxicated,” told them the caller had started the fight and assaulted her when she tried to break it up, but the bartender told deputies “at no time” was the woman assaulted. The bartender said the suspect’s sister actually tried several times to hit the man whose wallet was missing, and said she saw the Durango driver back into the other vehicle and then strike the caller’s brother. The Dodge Durango was located and impounded at a residence, though deputies were told the driver got into another vehicle and left the scene. The pedestrian was reported in stable condition at Weirton Medical Center.

Police said she didn’t appear to be under the influence and said she consented to a search of her vehicle that yielded nothing. She also was able to answer questions correctly, so emergency personnel advised she should go back to the friend’s house and sleep until she’s awake enough to drive.
