Police reports

Steubenville police

Wrong place, wrong time: William T. Tunno, 33, 3729 West St. Extension, Weirton, was charged with criminal trespass after the owner of a recently burned-out home on Fourth Street allegedly caught him inside the property. The homeowner said he’d stopped by the property to pick up some possessions when he found the man inside his home, trying to steal DVDs. He told the intruder to leave but the man refused, so he removed him. Police said they’d cited Tunno earlier on the shift for possession of drugs, suboxone, and located him walking on North Seventh Street, claiming he’d told them he’d been in the residence because he thought it was abandoned.

Up close: Callers reported a car parked behind a mall store Thursday after closing. Police said they located the car with its lights off and windows fogged, and said the couple was “in the back seat enjoying each other’s company.”

Sleep time: A man who admitted using crack Wednesday told police he hadn’t slept in four days. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Problems: A landlord who served an eviction notice on a problem tenant Thursday said all four tires on his vehicle were slashed overnight.

Damaged: A caller reported a vehicle in the 100 block of North Sixth Street Thursday with broken windows and possibly a body inside. Police said when they located the vehicle, all of the windows were broken and there were several trash bags in the front seat. They said the vehicle had been sitting in the parking lot for no less than several months, but due to it being on private property all they could do was document the damages.

Doubled up: City police charged the same man with driving under suspension twice within 90 minutes, Tuesday. Michael J. Vendetta, 41, no fixed address, was cited for DUS and no tail lights and also served with a bench warrant for failure to appear at 12:18 a.m. Less than 90 minutes later, officers allege Vendetta got behind the wheel a second time, again with non-working tail lights. He was stopped on North Third Street at Dock Street and booked into the county jail, they said.

Sleeping: A caller reported an intoxicated female sleeping in the “to go” parking stall Wednesday at Applebees. She was gone when police arrived on scene.

Shattered: An “extremely intoxicated” male called 911 to report hearing glass shattering at a residence in the 100 block of McDowell Avenue. Police said the glass was broken on the front and back doors, as well as a window on the north side of the residence. They also noted that, earlier in the day, a female had been escorted from the residence because of his intoxicated state and threats he’d allegedly made to her.

Arrested: Maurice Glenn Brown, 54, 415 Logan Ave., Mingo Junction, was taken into custody Monday on a breaking and entering charge. Brown had been in the city building paying fines when police confirmed an active warrant for his arrest.

Suspicious: Vance Lytle, 22, 1054 Adams St., Steubenville, failure to appear. Lytle was issued a summons after officers recognized him while investigating reports of a suspicious vehicle in the 1000 block of Adams Street. Two men, one of them identified as Lytle, were working on a speaker in the rear of a car. A new bench warrant was issued Tuesday after Lytle allegedly skipped his hearing.

Vanished: A vehicle stopped in the middle of Veteran’s Memorial Bridge, Tuesday, and the driver, a woman, jumped out, police were told. The responding officer said he found a silver Toyota 4Runner stopped in the westbound lane, unoccupied but with the engine still running. He remained at the scene until Weirton police arrived to take control of the site.

Missing: A black Jeep Liberty parked in the 300 block of Woodlawn Road and a blue Honda Accord parked in the 1200 block of Claire Street were ticketed and towed Tuesday for overtime parking violations.

Steaming: An apartment dweller in the 400 block of Adams was irate because his Xbox and six games had been stolen Sunday. The man told police he thinks someone in his building took the items.

Detained: Vincent Fristick, 64, 903 Longford Drive, Steubenville, was taken into custody Tuesday on a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence following a two-car accident at the intersection of University Boulevard and North Seventh Street. Fristick allegedly attempted a left onto University Boulevard when he lost control and struck the drivers’ side of another vehicle.

Lost and found: A woman who lost her keys at the Sunset Boulevard Speedway on Wednesday believes another patron pocketed them. She said she realized her mistake immediately, and, when she went back inside the store asked a man if she could look under a newspaper he’d laid on the checkout counter, he got defensive.

Bugged: A Mingo Junction caller reported an individual harassing him via social media and text messages, but because the man was outside city limits another agency was asked to investigate.

Responded: City firefighters administered Narcan to a woman believed to have overdosed Tuesday. Police said the woman was unconscious inside the residence when they arrived on scene. A male who was present said she’d made gargling noises after returning to the residence, and denied any drugs being used on site.

Joyless ride: A snapchat video showing three juveniles doing donuts in a Frontier Environmental pickup truck Jan. 9 on a wellsite in Dillonvale led authorities to their door. Deputies interviewed the boys, who said the truck was unlocked with the keys inside so they “got into the truck and did a few donuts in the parking lot, then parked it where they found it.” Deputies said two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old were identified from the video. Frontier was notified and a supervisor indicated the company is pursuing charges for the unauthorized use of the truck, saying two of the miscreants had apologized and returned several road signs and a fire extinguisher that were missing. The third youth, said to be the driver, was a no-show. The site supervisor told deputies another motorist had contacted him about sand bags that fell off the truck into the roadway on county Road 7 near New Town. He said he’d hit the bags but his vehicle wasn’t damaged.

Moving blues: A Bloomingdale resident who said she’s paid a moving company nearly $10,000 to move her furniture and other possessions to Texas in September told deputies Wednesday they still haven’t been delivered. The woman said she hired a Florida moving company, National Express, to transport her belongings, but claims that without her knowledge they subcontracted the move to a smaller North Carolina company, Orbit Moving Services, which dispatched one small truck for items she had organized in three storage units and a garage, and said her husband, daughter and several grandsons had to help load it. The company then sent two more trucks, which they filled . The woman told deputies she flew to Texas to take delivery of her possessions in October but they haven’t been delivered, and said she’d talked to individuals from both companies who assured her she would have her possessions by specific dates but so far none of those deadlines have been met.

Injured: A Bloomingdale man accidentally shot himself Wednesday while he was wiping his gun down before he secured it in a safe. The man told deputies he noticed oil residue on the gun so he grabbed a paper towel to clean it, holding it in his left hand while he wiped it down. The gun discharged, clipping his left index finger between his first and second knuckle. He said he dropped the gun after it discharged, then cleaned up the blood, made himself some coffee and let the dog out before driving himself to the hospital.

Theft: A woman living on state Route 213, Steubenville, told deputies someone stole two guns and magazines from her car Thursday. She said the magazines were in her center console and the guns – a 9mm Ruger Security and a .30 Ruger LCP II – were in the back of her car, covered up.

Fraud: A Bloomingdale resident told deputies a fraudulent unemployment claim had been filed in her husband’s name. She said she’d notified his employer, his union, his bank and all three credit report agencies.

Stolen: An Adena farmer said when he went outside to feed his livestock Thursday, someone entered his house and stole three firearms he kept under his bed. The man said a Tri-star .12 gauge shotgun, a DPMS Panther Arms AR 15 and a Del-Ton AR15 were stolen.

Family feud: Owners of a remote property in Mount Pleasant township, Dillonvale, said someone had sprayed paint on equipment stored there. Four siblings had recently purchased the property, ending several years of argument over it. The name of a sibling that wasn’t part of the settlement was sprayed on farm implements, she said.
