STEUBENVILLE POLICE Forgetful parent: A caller reported a 4-year-old child had been left behind at the uptown Speedway Tuesday. By the time police arrived the mother had returned for the child, who she said “had gotten out of the car without her knowing it” and once she realized the child wasn’t in the vehicle “she contacted Speedway and immediately came back.” Aggressive kid: Callers reported a juvenile at Murphy Feld “brandishing a firearm” Tuesday. Veterans Memorial Bridge to temporarily close for inspection WEIRTON – Eastbound and westbound lanes of the Veterans Memorial Bridge will be closed to traffic, from midnight to 4 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, for a bridge inspection. The closures are being done at night to minimize the impact on motorists. Emergency vehicles will be accommodated. Alternate routes include traveling north to U.S. 30 and then south to return to U.S. 22, or south to the Wellsburg Bridge. The schedule could be altered by inclement weather or other circumstances. Police sat in the alley beside the residence for a time but “did not hear a dog bark.” Not appreciated: Police told a Brady Avenue resident he needs to stop driving his truck through his neighbor’s backyard Sunday. STEUBENVILLE POLICE Extremely bad break: An officer at a stop sign at South and Fourth streets reported seeing a motorcycle and a vehicle southbound on Seventh Street “at a high rate of speed” Tuesday. He followed the two of them and said the car had stopped and the driver was “throwing items from the vehicle.” The driver, a woman, told police she was following her ex-boyfriend “because they are going through a bad break-up.” Police couldn’t locate him but she ended up picking up the items she’d tossed out of the vehicle.
